Custom test benches

Extreme environment simulation

Irian Mecatronics designs and manufactures custom test benches to recreate extreme physical and chemical conditions in the laboratory. Our equipment allows for testing materials, studying phenomena, or validating processes at high pressures, at high or low temperatures, and in corrosive environments. We step in where standard catalogues stop, by developing the unique instrument tailored to your experimental protocol.

01 — The problems we solve

Does one of these challenges look familiar?

The engineers or researchers who contact us often need to combine several physical constraints that no standard equipment can satisfy. They are looking for a reliable and safe solution to conduct their tests under non-standard conditions.

Reaching and maintaining pressures above 1000 bar

Exceeding 1000 bar presents critical challenges in mechanical design, material selection, and sealing technologies. Operator safety is the priority and requires robust, proven containment solutions. Mastering these parameters allows for reliable testing under conditions inaccessible to standard equipment.

Conducting tests in corrosive environments at high pressure and temperature

The combination of HPHT and aggressive chemical agents (H2S, acids) accelerates corrosion and can contaminate tests. The solution lies in the selection and controlled implementation of special alloys (Hastelloy, titanium). This ensures the equipment's mechanical integrity, its longevity, and the purity of experimental results.

Combining high pressure with another physical constraint

Adding a mechanical stress, an optical access, or operating in microgravity complicates an already pressurised system. The challenge is to integrate sealed passages for actuators, distortion-free optical windows, or orientation-insensitive fluidic systems. The project's success depends on this integration engineering.

Operating safely with flammable fluids in an ATEX zone

Handling flammable fluids (hydrogen, solvents) under pressure requires a rigorous design to prevent leaks and eliminate ignition sources. The equipment must incorporate ATEX-certified components, appropriate ventilation, and redundant safety logic to ensure the protection of personnel and facilities.

Ensuring long-term stability or parallelising tests

Maintaining stable extreme conditions over several weeks requires fine control and highly reliable components. To increase throughput, parallelising tests is an effective solution. This demands a modular design and a control system capable of managing several autonomous experiments simultaneously.

03 — Our approach

Our approach: from your need to your equipment

Each piece of equipment is a unique solution. Our integrated design office (mechanical, instrumentation, automation) works in constant dialogue with you to translate a scientific challenge into a reliable and safe research tool.

  1. Understanding the experimental need

We go beyond the technical specification to understand the scientific objective of your test. This listening phase is essential to ensure that the final equipment will meet not only the specifications but also the real need of the experimenter, by anticipating usability and future evolution constraints.

  2. Designing the custom solution

Our integrated design office models a solution that solves the project's challenges, even when constraints are contradictory (pressure and optics, corrosion and mechanics...). We select the appropriate materials and technologies to create a robust and functional design where no standard equipment exists.

  3. Manufacturing, assembling, and validating in-house

Manufacturing is 100% French, in our Morlaàs workshops. Each piece of equipment is assembled and undergoes rigorous factory acceptance tests (FAT) in your presence. This systematic validation guarantees the system's performance, reliability, and safety before its delivery and commissioning at your site.

04 — FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What are your pressure and temperature limits for custom equipment?

Our achievements demonstrate our ability to design equipment operating up to 1500 bar and in a temperature range from 2°C to 250°C. As each project is unique, these values are not absolute limits. We study each specification to develop the technical solution that precisely meets your experimental conditions, even if they are beyond these references.

How do you guarantee corrosion resistance in an HPHT environment?

We ensure corrosion resistance through a rigorous selection of materials and mastery of their implementation. Depending on your fluids and conditions (acids, H2S, CO2...), we use special alloys such as Hastelloy C-276 or titanium. Our expertise in welding and machining these materials guarantees the long-term mechanical integrity of the equipment, the safety of the installation, and the integrity of your measurements by preventing any contamination.

Is it possible to integrate an optical access to visualise a test under high pressure?

Yes, we regularly integrate optical access into our high-pressure equipment. We design and manufacture cells with sapphire windows or fully sapphire bodies, capable of withstanding pressure while offering excellent optical quality. This allows for direct observation, photography, spectroscopy, or other in-situ analyses of phenomena occurring under extreme conditions.

How does the design process for a custom test bench with Irian Mecatronics work?

The project begins with an in-depth discussion to understand your scientific need. Our design office then designs a technical solution that we validate together. Manufacturing is then launched in our workshops. Before delivery, we conduct factory acceptance tests (FAT) to validate performance. Finally, we handle the commissioning on your site and the training of operators.

Does your experimental protocol exceed the capabilities of standard equipment?

Let's discuss your project. Our design office is ready to analyse your constraints to design the unique instrument that will enable you to conduct your tests.
